Our transportation spaces are designed keeping the users in mind. Be it reducing the morning commute time by a couple of minutes, making the spaces more accessible or even designing them to be more aesthetically pleasing, the community using it is always the centre of our focus.

Transportation Portfolio

Effective transportation networks are the life blood of our world’s urban development and economic prosperity. Transportation systems impact the flow of goods and raw materials, the accessibility of talent and human resources to work places, and the quality and sustainability of our urban, suburban and rural environments.

Architecture49’s transportation practice specializes in multi-use corridors, gathering places and intersections that accommodate everyone, from pedestrians and motorists to buses, ferries, planes and freight. We integrate high-technology systems and environmental sustainability with architecture and urban planning, taking a holistic view of infrastructure and flow to make communities more vibrant.

“Well-designed transportation systems not only deliver people and products efficiently to their desired destinations, but they enhance and enrich the journeys. We have a passion for and core belief in sustainable cities and living environments and are committed to careful, responsive and creative design of the transportation systems which serve them and their inhabitants.”

Areas of Focus

AIRPORTS & AVIATION

Airport terminals balance complex operational, security, and technological demands with meaningful passenger experiences, serving as distinctive civic places of arrival and departure shaped through close collaboration with aviation planning and engineering partners.

Bus, rail, and ground transit systems support growth and sustainability, delivering safe, intuitive passenger experiences while creating civic stations that integrate into communities and help reduce congestion and emissions.

Operations & Maintenance

A look at the quiet impact of everyday transit and the systems that shape how people move through their cities. It takes a closer look at the infrastructure and decisions helping cities align daily movement with long term climate goals.

Operations and maintenance facilities support the reliability of transit systems, combining efficient vehicle servicing, storage, and fleet management with layouts that enable safe, continuous, and cost‑effective day‑to‑day operations.

The Stouffville line underwent a major redevelopment to convert to a rapid transit line with trains running every 15 minutes or less to offer passengers a faster, better and easier commuter experience.
